Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if Safe Space CBT can help?

Here at Safe Space CBT, we focus on working in the here and now to learn techniques to help you manage how you think, feel and behave. If you think CBT is for you, please call or email to arrange a short initial telephone consultation or ask any questions you have.

How does CBT work?

Together in therapy you and I will work together to break down your problems into the separate parts (see What is CBT), we will analyse these parts together to identify what is maintaining your difficulties, and then apply CBT techniques to overcome difficulties and reduce emotional intensity. I aim to provide you with the skills to independently manage your difficulties in the here and now, but also to explore how you may use the CBT skills learnt to manage any future difficulties. CBT skills are lifelong skills if regularly practiced and integrated into your daily living, essentially becoming your own therapist.

What can I expect in therapy?

The time each session will be focused on you and your goals. The therapist will guide and facilitate the session although you will get the most out of your sessions if you come prepared to share and reflect. The appointments themselves will range between 50-60 minutes and will follow a similar structure each time. Often the first few sessions are information gathering and may be structured where the therapist is asking questions to gather information on current difficulties and the impact of these. Before the remaining sessions focusing on working towards your goals using CBT interventions.

How do I make a therapy appointment?

Please either email felicity@safespacecbt.co.uk or call 07393717507. Please leave a message and I will respond to you as soon as I can.

How will I know if therapy is working?

This is a good question and asked regularly. Therapy works towards achieving the goals you set yourself and so results are highly individual. We do also regularly use questionnaires to measure common symptoms you might be experiencing.

How do I pay for therapy?

Session fees are usually paid for in advance of the session via bank transfer. Once you have booked your initial appointment, payment details will be sent with your appointment confirmation. Your first appointment will not be confirmed until the fee is received.

How often do I need to go?

Therapy plans are highly individualized. Most people benefit from attending weekly or bi-weekly sessions, although you can decide this with your therapist.

How much does each session cost?

Initial Assessment Session Â£95

Standard Treatment Sessions £85

Extended treatment Session Â£120

Payments must be made via BACS when booking each session to secure your slot. If payment is not made, I cannot confirm your slot for you.

Typically a standard treatment session lasts up to 50 minutes and an extended session lasts up to 90 minutes.

What happens if I need to cancel?

If you cancel a session in advance, we can re-arrange this, however short-notice cancellations (i.e. within 48hours before appointment time) will be charged at the full session rate. The reason for this is appointments cannot be rebooked at such short notice. We cannot book a new appointment until the missed appointment is paid for.

Can I stop treatment at any time?

Yes, of course you can stop treatment at any time, and for any reason.

For therapy to be effective, appointments need to be attended regularly and effort is required to make the most of each session. If there is anything going on for you that may hinder this, we can discuss this together.

What happens if I do not attend an appointment?

If you miss your appointment, you will be charged at the full session rate. If you arrive 5-10 minutes late, the session will still go ahead (charged at the session rate) however, will be shorter.
